Children Developmental Centre (CDC), Lagos: A bief history

April 15th, 2010

The Centre began operations in 1994 as an idea to provide children with autism and developmental issues in Nigeria a centre for care and attention.

Our journey has been an interesting one as we became fully operational in 1996, operating from a donated – rented -  two bedroom appatment. We started with seven parents and their children with a 4 man strong staff.

By the end of 1996, our base had increased to 24 families and the centre had increased her focus to providing assessment, diagnosis, and programme for the children.  To cater for our growth, we rolocated to Yaba – a Lagos suburb.

Shortly afterwards we secured support of the Lagos State Governemt who helped in building the purpose built centre from where we operate from today – 21, Modupe Johnson Crescent Suru Lere Lagos, Nigeria

Two years were spent at yaba, by 1998; we had come to the attention of Lagos State Government, who then decided to help build a purpose centre for providing services for children with disabilities. In November 1998, we moved into the centre built in Surulere with our twenty-eight families.

In 2007  we established a smaller centre in Kaduna and have eleven (11) children under our care there.

To date we have established a full training programme and an early intervention programme – We^tooCan grow programme spanning four states with  proposal serve seven other states, and have become an award winning programme recognised by the Lagos State Government.
